News Briefs

  • 1999-12-16 IETF RFC 2731 "Encoding Dublin Core Metadata in HTML" is now available.
    This document is the end product of the substantial efforts of John Kunze, who developed its antecedent, an Internet Draft, managed the revision of the draft, and its evolution into the present document. The Dublin Core community is indebted to John for his substantial efforts in bringing this important document to fruition, and to the many others who contributed to the evolution of this important convention for expressing metadata in HTML.
  • 1999-12- 06 DCMI web site announces mirror sites in Australia and the U.K.

Working Group Updates

  • 1999-12-21 New provisional working group: DC-Registry
  • 1999-12-14 New provisional working group: DC-Government
    The Government working group is a forum for individuals involved in implementing Dublin Core within and between government agencies. The working group will also be active in promoting use of DC within government agencies considering developing metadata-based information services.
  • 1999-12-07 New provisional working group: DC-Libraries
    The Libraries working group will work towards fostering increased operability between DC and library metadata by identifying issues and solutions; keeping the library community informed on DC developments; encouraging experimentation more widely with Dublin Core in libraries; building a library implementors community and exploring the need for a cross-domain namespace to register non-DC elements and qualifiers needed by the library community.

Project and Tool Updates

  • 1999-12-17 New Project: MetaChem
    MetaChem is a single Web-based focal point for access to chemistry information resources of all kinds.
  • 1999-12-17 New Project URL: PhysNet
    PhysNet now has a new URL ( http://physnet.uni-oldenburg.de/PhysNet/physnet.html ). PhysNet offers a set of lists of links to all Physics Institutions worldwide ordered by country and town and a search facility on the Web through the local Physics Institutions for locally stored documents.

Web Site Changes

  • 1999-12-20 Incorporated "Dublin Core in the Press" into the "Selected Publications and Presentations" page.
  • 1999-12-13 Updated and reorganized the FAQ page; added the question, "Is there metadata on the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative's web site pages?"
  • 1999-12-03 Collapsed the different document directories for Recommendations, Proposed Recommendations, Working Drafts, and Notes into a single Documents directory.
