| Abstract: | Selection and metadata issues which surround the preservation of digital information are discussed, in particular, the assignment of ``collection levels'' to Web materials intended for preservation, and some Preservation Metadata Element Sets (PMES) which have been identified as informed by the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) Reference Model. The work being undertaken by the joint Research Libraries Group (RLG) and OCLC Working Group on Preservation Metadata, among other initiatives, is similar to the objectives and methodology of this paper which are to identify a comprehensive metadata framework to support a broad range of digital preservation activities. |
