OWMS - OVERHEID Webmetadatastandard

(Government Web Metadata Standard)

OWMS is an open standard intended to support discovery of information, published on the web by Dutch governmental organisations. See [WWW]standaarden.overheid.nl for full documentation in Dutch. The current version 3.5 is used by several organisations.

OWMS has a technical framework that supports validation of the metadata. The technical framework has had a “collegial quality assessment” of the “Overheid.nl Web Metadata Standaard” (OWMS) requested by the program “Overheid heeft Antwoord©” and conducted in October and November 2008 by a team of experts (Thomas Baker, Makx Dekkers and Mikael Nilsson). Read the [WWW]review report (in English).

OWMS is developed by a programme called [WWW]Overheid heeft Antwoord(c) (in Dutch) within Stichting ICTU (ICTU foundation). Overheid heeft Antwoord (c) is directed by The ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) and supports the online accessible government.

The first edition of OWMS was made by [WWW]Rand Europe after an investigation to select a standard and define which elements to use. The report of this investigation: [WWW]Designing a National Standard for Discovery Metadata, Improving Access to Digital Information in the Dutch Government.
