DCMI Education Community Wiki

The DCMI Education Community is focusing on several work items this year:

Vocabularies for education are a focus for the Community at all times. For more on DC-Ed work on vocabularies for the Application Profile, go directly to the Vocabularies page.

DC-Ed and ISO Metadata for Learning Resources

The DC-Education Community is working with the [WWW]ISO Metadata for Learning Resources group to ensure compatibility of the DC-Education Application Profile Module and the ISO MLR-5: Educational Elements standard. We will be attending ISO MLR webconferences on 16 November 2009 and 18 December 2009, in preparation for the group's big meeting in Osaka in 2010. Phil Barker and Lorna Campbell of the UK's [WWW]JISC CETIS, who are active members of the Community, will also be working with us on feedback and input.

In order to best facilitate DC-Education Community feedback on this process we will also be holding DC-Education webconferences prior to each of the ISO MLR ones. The first of these will be held on 9 November 2009, 16:00-17:30 GMT. Please contact [MAILTO]Sarah Currier if you wish to attend. Please join the [WWW]DC Education mailing list for updates and discussion.

DC-Ed at DC-2009 Seoul, Korea

The DC-Education Application Profile Task Group did not meet in Seoul at the [WWW]DC-2009 Conference, as unfortunately neither Moderator was able to attend. The brief update presentation that was shown at the conference plenary session is [WWW]here. DC-Education Community member, and long-time expert in educational metadata [WWW]Jon Mason of Intercog kindly agreed to include news from DC-Education in his presentation during the [WWW]Linked Data Session on Wednesday 14th October. Slides for this are available [WWW]here. The best place to get a more detailed update on specific work on the DC-Education AP is in the [WWW]slides from last year's conference.

DC-Ed at DC-2008 Berlin, Germany

The DC-Ed Community's Education Application Profile Task Group met in Berlin at the [WWW]DC-2008 Conference, on Tuesday 23rd September at 15:45. Notes of the meeting are [WWW]available, as are the [WWW]slides presented by co-moderator Sarah Currier. The DCMI/IEEE Taskforce met on Wednesday 24th September at 15:30. For more on the DC/LOM work see [WWW]these wiki pages.

DC-Ed at DC-2007 Singapore

The DC-Ed Community met face-to-face in Singapore in August 2007. A report from the meeting, with discussion, actions and workplan, is available [WWW]here. It was decided that a new DC-Education Application Profile Task Group would be formed.

The DC-Education Application Profile page briefly summarises work to date and the AP workplan. Meeting slides detailing work completed for 2006/2007, and noting discussion points, are available here: DC-Ed_Community_Meeting_DC2007_slides.pwz

Shu-Jiun (Sophy) Chen reported at the meeting on the educational application profile work being carried out at the National Digital Archives Program, Taiwan. Powerpoint slides (4.4MB): DC-Ed_Report_on_Taiwanese_Educational_AP.pwz.

DC-Ed at JISC-CETIS Metadata SIG Meeting, April 2007

The [WWW]JISC-CETIS Metadata and Repositories SIG had a [WWW]meeting in Manchester, England on 16 April 2007 focussing on DC and educational metadata. DC-Ed Community Moderator Sarah Currier was among the presenters, talking about DC-Ed Application Profile work and gathering input and feedback from the gathered practitioners and experts. Pete Johnston of UKOLN was also there, and presented on the DCAM, and the [Self]Joint DCMI/IEEE LTSC Taskforce work, among other presenters talking about more general related DC work. Follow the [WWW]meeting link to see all of the presentations and download audio files. Sarah has posted a summary of the discussion on the four vocabulary criteria at JISC-CETIS Metadata and Digital Repositories SIG Meeting, 16 April 2007 here on the Wiki: JISC CETIS MDR SIG Meeting Report

Pete also [WWW]posted on the meeting at his eFoundations blog.
