== DC-Education Application Profile ==


At its face-to-face meetings at DC-2004 in Shanghai, DC-2005 in Madrid, and DC-2006 in Manzanillo, the Community (formerly the Working Group) moved forward in the development of a DC-Education Application Profile (AP). While work remains on developing the formal mechanisms for referencing IEEE LOM elements in such an AP, the Community determined that work on the remainder of the Profile should proceed. Further, in Madrid the decision was made to focus effort primarily on the educationally significant properties available in Dublin Core. The goal is to set out '''property usage''' for the available DCMI properties including the use of value spaces and best practices within the context of education and training.

It is the goal of the Community to discuss a completed "modular" AP at DC-2007 in Singapore and to take the AP to the Usage Board for formal review at its following mid-year meeting.  

As noted in the preface to the AP, the Education Working Group is indebted to the excellent, pioneering work of the DC-Libraries Community on the DC-Libraries AP.

The Joint DCMI/IEEE LTSC Taskforce, is producing a joint DCMI/IEEE specification making recommendations for using IEEE LOM Elements in Dublin Core metadata. To find out more about that effort, visit the [http://dublincore.org/educationwiki/DCMIIEEELTSCTaskforce Taskforce wiki]

=== Workplan for Drafting the Application Profile ===

Our original workplan involved a relatively small Drafting Committee to prepare proposals for consideration. We thank the Drafting Committee for their efforts (reflected in versions 0.2 and 0.3, referenced below), and hope they will continue their involvement in the Application Profile. (For historical information on the Drafting Committee, see the ["Drafting Committee Workpage"]).  The current plan enlists the Community as a whole in the effort, coordinated by the DC-Ed Community Moderators, [mailto:dih1@cornell.edu Diane Hillmann] and [mailto:s.currier@intrallect.com Sarah Currier].  If you wish to volunteer for specific tasks, please contact one of the Moderators.

All development efforts on the AP will be presented and discussed on the regular [http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?LIST=DC-EDUCATION Community Mailing List]. All Community members are strongly encouraged to comment on issues and drafts presented on the mailing list, and to bring up issues relevant to usage of the AP in their own projects and organizations.
