=== Agenda: Kernel Metadata Application Profile (KAP) Task Group === * Introductions and review of charge: create Kernel Application Profile * Review purpose and format of KAP -- DC2007 theme and Kernel meeting * Review recent Kernel spec changes and relation to Dublin Core * Discussion of changes -- concerns, clarifications, etc. * Develop Roadmap to completion -- inputs, investigation, volunteers * Wrapup === Attending: === Jon Mason, Pete Johnston, Charles Blair, Tom Baker, Jane Huang, William Moen, Adrian Turner, John Kunze ---- '''Notes from 2007.08.16 KAP Task Group Conference Call''' ---- * Tom Baker and Pete Johnston helped the group understand what's involved in creating an application profile. * The best approach appears to be to map Kernel/ERC to the Dublin Core Abstact Model (DCAM) rather than to remodel the Kernel along DCAM lines. * The profile should represent an "ontological commitment". Application Profiles are still new and our group is somewhat of a pioneer in the area. * Benefits of mapping the Kernel/ERC to DCAM are expected to include (a) a general flushing out of bugs in semantic and syntactic consistency and (b) structures that may assist automatic translation (eg, to XML). * The group was asked to review and give feedback on the Kernel spec, especially recent changes. The changes appear to be well-received. [Several substantive comments came in by email directly following the call; a revision will appear soon.] * Jon Mason asked if there were more story types to come, the answer being yes, that other story types were under development and could easily be proposed. * Bill Moen suggested that the document reference the ARK identifier specification, which references Kernel metadata. * Bill also asked for clarification of whether it is the ERC (object description) or the Kernel (vocabulary) that we are mapping to the DCAM; the answer is probably the former (ERD) but this is a matter that we will need to confirm later. * The group's next call will be Thursday, 20 September for 60 minutes.
