CanCore call, January 10, 2006

In Attendance:

Norm Friesen, CanCore Anastasia Cheetham, ATRC Anthony Roberts, CanCore Andy Heath, Sheffield Hallam University Joseph, ATRC

Discussion: 1.8 has component

Datatype: characterstring -but should it allow for further LOM subelements for expressing catalog and entry?

Formally, it requires an identifier. btu Here’s what I have paraphrased from Andy: This element requires is an identifier, and it can be implemented as a character string value identifier) or it can be implemented as identifier, entry, etc.

We should bring the current ambiguity in the question of datatypes and the potential flexibility to the attention of the project editors. This ambiguity could be addressed/resolved by defining a datatype that would allow for either a string or a set of sub-elements or components (such as catalog and entry).

ISSN and ISBN should be eliminated for now, at least from the main statement of id types

Joseph Mention ISBN under the definition from URN.

Norm: suggests changing the text at the top of the document. This is re-worded.

Andy: Provide text related to both DC and LOM “adaptations.”

More wording is discussed and added re: DC versus a LOM-oriented implementation.
