1.9.2: coverage

Explanation Size Order Value Space Datatype
Specifies the degree to which the described resource is a replacement for the intellectual content of the resource it is an alternate for. 1 unspecified all, part Vocabulary

Technical Implementation Notes

Coverage is this sense is slightly different from the IEEE-LOM 1.6 coverage element defined as "The time, culture, geography or region to which this learning object applies" and Dublin Core's coverage defined as, "The extent or scope of the content of the resource". Coverage here is not about culture, time or geography but rather coverage refers to the part of the resource that is being covered with the alternate.

Vocabulary Recommendations

Choose from one of the following:

all - The described resource is a complete replacement of the resource it is an alternate of.
part - The described resource is content that captures some of the content of another resource, but cannot, by itself completely replace that other resource.

An example of partial covereage is a set of captions for a digital video. The captions are an alternative form of the speech in the video, but, by themselves do no constitute a replacement of the full (albeit uncaptioned) video.
