Session 1 - DC 2005
In this session, members of the Usage Board were available to help define the new term and abstract profile of the Access For All work with the Dublin Core Abstract Model.
After some introductions to the participants, and the ideas behind the work, the group focussed on the document that describes the frame work (see AccessForAllFramework).
Some important aspects were:
-
suggestion that the term should be called "adaptability statement' and that the definition should start with the words "characteristics of ..." instead of "A statement describing the characteristics of ..."
-
that the "accessMode" needs a good and suitable vocabulary
-
that the definition for "isAlternativeFor" and "hasAlternative" maybe need not include the words "but presented in another access mode" which would make it more general
-
that the "adaptability statement" was not really necessary as it is more like a particular way of saying the properties in much the same way as for the DC rights element, the value can be a human written/readable comment or something expressed in a rights description language
-
that the work started on controlled vocabularies would be important work and participants were keen to get others involved.
