Special Session: Metadata Quality
Coordinator:
Diane Hillmann (dih1@cornell.edu)
Description:
As metadata becomes a shared commodity, quality becomes a critical issue. Even
in the library world, little has been written about metadata quality that can be
generalized to other domains. Yet as harvesting and aggregation become more
prevalent, quality metadata is beginning to be recognized as an important
investment.
Some of the questions that this panel will consider are:
Can quality be measured? If so, what measurement criteria apply?
Can quality be enforced? If so, how?
How can we best assess metadata quality? Once assessed, can we "rate" it in some
way?
Are there machine-based methods for improving metadata quality?
