DC-2003 will provide conference participants with a forum for intensive interaction with researchers, practitioners and decision makers concerned with advances in metadata for resource discovery, retrieval, management and use. The Conference Track will present refereed papers on metadata and related areas of concern including the following:
-
Conceptual models and fundamental principles
-
Globalization and localization
-
Community or domain metadata (statistical, government, geo-spatial, etc.)
-
Enterprise metadata
-
Metadata registries and registry services
-
Interoperability among metadata systems and standards
-
Search engines and metadata
-
Implementation of systems and tools for metadata applications
While many of the papers and posters in the Conference Track will focus on matters of the Dublin Core metadata element set, the scope of the Track is broad and will include research and applications involving a wide array of metadata schemas and application domains in both the public and private sectors.
The DC-2003 Poster Track will provide an opportunity for select presentation in an interactive or graphic format of formative and ongoing research as well as new directions in implementation of metadata systems and services. The DC-Lab will include demonstrations of metadata tools and services that advance our knowledge.
In moments away from the conference, participants can explore the richness of the "Emerald City." Seattle is home to the seventh largest population of artists in the United States. The Seattle art scene includes the Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera and the Pacific Northwest Ballet, numerous art galleries, the Seattle Art Museum and the Seattle Asian Art Museum, along with the Experience Music Project. Seattle is rich in theater arts with eighty companies, thirteen of which are professional. Seattle hosts large-scale musical concerts and has gained international attention as the place of origin of many trend-setting rock and pop groups.
