Johannes Keizer Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Johannes Keizer works at the Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, where he is responsible for scientific documentation and related activities, such as the international cooperative information network, AGRIS. Dr Keizer's group has launched various initiatives over recent years, taking advantage of the new possibilities of the Internet to access scientific and technological information for FAO's member countries, to develop, among other things, a Semantic web in FAO's subject areas through the setting up of the Agricultural Ontology Service (AOS) and the AgMES (Agricultural Metadata Element Set) initiatives. Johannes Keizer holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Mainz. Before joining FAO in 2000, he worked as a researcher in biochemistry at the Italian Advanced Institute of Health, and later as free-lance consultant for the management of scientific data. He lives in Rome.
