After a rigorous review and selection process, the DCMI 2024 Student Forum is delighted to announce the winners of this year’s awards.
First Place
Metadata Description Framework for Chinese Paper-cutting in the Context of Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance

Shengnan Zhao’s research focuses on developing a metadata framework specifically designed for Chinese paper-cutting. This significant form of intangible cultural heritage requires specialized metadata to ensure its effective documentation, preservation, and dissemination. The proposed framework aims to enhance the inheritance and appreciation of this traditional art form through innovative metadata practices.
Second Place
Multi-modal Knowledge Organization Approach for Incorporating Intelligent Construction Metadata

Wenjing Wu’s project explores a multi-modal knowledge organization approach to integrate intelligent construction metadata. By leveraging advanced metadata techniques, this research seeks to improve the organization, retrieval, and application of construction-related data, contributing to the efficiency and intelligence of construction industry practices.
This year, the Student Forum transitioned to a fully virtual format to enhance inclusivity and provide more engagement opportunities for students. Held on October 16, 2024, the online forum enabled master’s and doctoral students from around the world to share their experiences and exchange ideas on metadata innovation.
All presenters at the Student Forum received free registration for the conference, fostering greater participation and collaboration within the community. The winners were selected by the Student Forum Committee and will receive prizes of $300 for first place and $200 for second place, respectively.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the winners and all participants for their outstanding contributions to the field of metadata. Their innovative research and dedication continue to advance our understanding and application of metadata in various domains.
